Geocache Description:

The following cache is hidden with the history of this neighbourhood in mind.....This neighbourhood was first settled by the Indigenous peoples for millenia...then in the end of the eighteenth century, British and otherwise allied peoples began settling in the area, which very very gradually became the farming village of Eglinton. The area was initially a massive forest, with many trees with a width from 1-6 feet and as tall as a 17 floor office building. It took years before this area transitioned from a thick, huge forest to a successful agricultural area. Gradually, wheat farms and businesses began popping up...slowly becoming the busy area we see today. The subvisions and smaller streets that sprout from Yonge Street and Eglinton were hardly apparent until expansion began in the 1870's, though these subdivisions were mostly roads that didnt see much in terns of residential growth. But by the end of the nineteenth century onward, the area was part of the largest cattle grazing region in Upper Canada. The region was the first in North America to extend the use of cowbells to all cattle. Prior to this, it had been standard practice for a cowbell to be attached to only the best and leading piece of livestock.[2] To honour this proud and storied heritage, the City of Toronto named the local street "Cowbell Lane.", which this cache is hidden in (Paraphrased from Wikipedia)

"Many farms like the one photographed here in 1909 off Foreman Ave took advantage of the great soil conditions in North Toronto, and the strategic location of being close to Old Toronto via Yonge street. Cowbells would be a common sight on cows like this one."

"This still from 1911 is taken right by where Yonge and Montgomery sits today, with the simple townhall in the background on the left visible."

The following cache is hidden in a high muggle area, so be wary and sneaky about searching...construction for a huge condominium building is right nearby, and construction on the new Eglinton streetcar is also just a bit north....along with the constant stream of people who live and work nearby. This cache is a classic DreamMachine contraption, so don't be surprised. Do note, this is NOT a simple Park and Grab, unless you park right off Soudan or Holly Street.
