Our first cache named "Sky Liquid" was placed at the old water tower in Airdrie, Alberta. You've probably seen it as you drive past Airdrie on the Number 2 highway. We think these old relics are quite interesting and definitely give the towns of Alberta a distinctive look, so we plan on placing a few more at different locations and making "Sky Liquid" a series.
Black Diamond's water tower is known as a "standpipe" and sits right beside a nice little park in the city. Black Diamond was hit hard in the flood of 2013, as it destroyed two of the three supply wells and caused all sorts of water related woes for the residents, just like plenty of other towns in Alberta that year.
It seems we often take it for granted that we can just turn on our taps for a drink, take a shower, or water our lawns. We usually don't stop to think about all the incredible infrastructure that keeps this life-giving liquid flowing in Alberta. Even more important are the hardworking people who keep it all running. Our Sky Liquid series is about unique and interesting water towers/standpipes in Alberta, but it's also a nod to the people of Alberta involved in keeping the most important resource in the world coming into our homes. Limiting our own usage of water and avoiding waste is still one of the most important things we can do in Alberta.
