Geocache Description:

Geocache Description

This is a cache series which highlights the works by Japanese filmmaker and artist Hayao Miyazaki, a co-founder of Studio Ghibli. He has attained international acclaim as a masterful storyteller and as a maker of anime feature films and is widely regarded as one of the greatest animation filmmakers. This is a traditional cache that will take you on epic hike in Fountainhead Regional Park to scenic spot where Ponyo likes to play. The trail is multi-use, watch for trail runners, hikers, and horses.

Note: This cache has a keyword that is required to unlock the Totoro Forest Bonus cache for this series. Please leave laminated clue cards in the cache containers. See the links at the bottom of this listing to access all of the caches in the series.

Ponyo

Ponyo, given the name "Brunhilde" at the time of her birth, is one of the main protagonists of Hayao Miyazaki’s film Ponyo. She is a magical fish descended from the Sea Goddess, Granmamare and a sorcerer and the Guardian of Sea Life, Fujimoto. Ponyo herself is a magical being who can morph from fish to human to a more magical half-human hybrid. Her sisters can transform into huge watery fish-like creatures: They appear, in some ways, to be analogous to the mythical Ningyos, a fish-like creature from Japanese folklore. Catching a Ningyo was believed to bring storms and misfortune, so fishermen who caught these creatures were said to throw them back into the sea. Ponyo behaves just like a regular five-year-old, intelligent, adorable, and mischievous, and later in the movie, sleepy. She's very happy and sweet all the time. Her favorite food is ham.
