Geocache Description:

Uncommon Common Art, 2019

This is part of a series of 5 geocaches placed near outdoor art installations. The geocaches will only be available until mid-October. For other geocaches in the series, see the bookmark list.

You may also find helpful the following guide to the UCA geocaches: link to google drive document.

Stop 4: "Dancing in the Dark" by Ray Mackie

Artist's description of the installation: These rays (raja radiata) suggest an underwater environment when displayed in any open area. Even though they are "out of place", they look strangely natural. This fish is common in Atlantic waters, but because it lives at the bottom, it is rarely seen. I have taken liberties with the coloration. I think of them as self portraits because my name is Ray.

Begin this two-stage multicache at the posted coordinates, which are also the coordinates for the art installation. You will need to examine the artwork and answer the questions below to get the coordinates to the final stage. The final is a short drive away from the art installation.

The final is at N 45' 04.ABC W 064' 21.ADC

  • Where are the rays? If "garden" then A = 8. If "lawn" then A = 7. If "underwater" then A = 6. If "in the mud" then A = 5.

  • What are the rays made out of? If "metal" then B = 1. If "pottery" then B = 5. If "plastic" then B = 7.

  • Where do the animals usually live? If "in the air" then C = 8. If "on the sea bottom" then C = 3. If "on the sea surface" then C = 5. If "at the skating rink" then C = 2.

  • Is there a fence nearby? If yes, then D = 2. If "No" then D = 7.

When you get to the final make sure to record the information needed for the bonus geocache

Be sure to put the lid on tightly so the container stays dry (hint, hint).

Added Aug 3: No need to go swimming. To find this one, you do need to go after it, hook, LINE and sinker. No need to step inside the fence, though you are looking for something on the inside of the fence.
