Geocache Description:

Welcome to the River Walk

This seems like a perfect time* to launch an easy virtual that will bring you to a nice spot to take a walk, enjoy the view, and learn a smidgen about local history if you're interested. *It was the very beginning of the pandemic.

The coordinates brought you to the location of an information sign near a pedestrian tunnel. Unfortunately, the sign was damaged, removed, and doesn't look like it will be replaced. Though a new plaque has been placed near the "picture tunnel".

Theodore Cornu, pictured on the old sign, was an artist who made line drawings of the Hudson and Croton Rivers. He was also a master canoe and kayak builder, as well as a conservationist who advocated to protect the natural habitat through the beauty of art.

Instructions for logging this virtual cache:

  • visit the spot in person
  • (1) - what date is inscribed above the tunnel
  • (2) - what name is on the new picture tunnel plaque
  • send me the answers to the two questions

Please do not post the answer to the questions in your log, but feel free to share any other interesting facts or anecdotes you have about the river or your experience while swimming upstream.
