Geocache Description:

This virtual geocache is in Berczy Park, in an area that has something for geo-tourists, geo-locals, geo-commuters, geo-dogs, geo-dog walkers, geo-cat lovers, geo-birders, geo-kids, geo-selfie-takers, geo-cyclists, geo-historians, geo-architects, geo-artists, geo-thespians, geo-hockey fans, and geo-picnickers.  Over the years, various traditional caches have been placed in Berczy, but they were often muggled - hopefully, this virtual will invite cachers from near and far to this park for many years to come!

Welcome to Berczy Park, a small but busy triangle in the heart of downtown Toronto. It is home to the iconic “Gooderham” (flatiron) building (David Roberts, Jr. – 1892) with its trompe l’oeil “Flatiron Mural” (Derek Michael Besant – 1980) on its back wall.

In 2017, Berczy Park got a makeover with the addition of two very large bronze hands, “Jacob’s Ladder” (Luis Jacob) and “The Golden Bone” (Claude Cormier) – a fountain with many dogs worshipping…guess what?...a golden bone!

GZ will take you to this whimsical fountain where you’ll have the opportunity to interact with its resident dogs and its one cat.

To log this virtual cache, please post a photo of yourself (faces do not need to be visible – a thumbs-up or pinkies-up is fine!) or your geo-dog (again, faces do not need to be visible – a tails-up or a paws-up is fine!) or your GPS or a travel bug or a card with your geocaching name written on it in front of the fountain or up close and personal with your favourite canine or feline statue.

Also, answer the following questions and message the CO with your answers:

1. Pugs make up what fraction of the cast-iron dog statues at the fountain?

2. At the fountain, the lone cat’s gaze is fixed upon two birds. What type of birds are they?

3. Take a tour around Berczy until you find a second cat, perched ~8 feet high, looking westward. Measure the distance between this cat and the golden bone.

**Special credit to geoBirder for the species identification in question #2 above!**
