At this location is the world's largest specimen of crystalline gold, it contains many layers of leaf gold separated by rock consisting of clay, quartz, maraposite, decomposed shale, and pyrite. The 60 lbs troy nugget was etched with acid to remove most of the quartz; the resulting gold leaf specimen is 44 lbs troy. A small piece of the original rock was left in the back to show the original matrix. It was discovered in a mine near Jamestown CA on December 26 1992.
The Nugget is accessable via a tour on Sat and Sun at 12:00.
