Welcome to Lake Tekapo, or more specifically the Church of the Good Shepherd.
This Church is probably the most photographed Church in the country and with the amazing backdrop of Lake Tekapo and the Southern Alps, you can see why. It was built in 1935 as a memorial to the early settlers of the district it is now is a Category I heritage building. While it is still open for Sunday worship and ceremonies, it's not otherwise open at other times to the general public.
We really like coming down here to spend some time in the Mackenzie District, with the Lake, Mt John, Twizel, Omarama, hydro canals, Mt Cook and numerous camping spots making it a lovely place to spend some time. Plus geocaches!
So park up, enjoy the view, have a look at the Church, take a photo, find the info needed then wander over and collect DOG & GOD
Logging requirements:
1. At GZ, there are two bronze plaques on the right of the steps leading up from the carpark gates to the Church. Message / email me via this site the year mentioned from each plaque. 2 plaques, two years mentioned. Easy.
2. Take a photo of the Church with the view up Lake Tekapo and add it to your log please. You, your GPS / phone or caching name being in the shot would be nice too so we know it's not an armchair visit. FYI, the background photo is from a cold autumn day in May 2021.
Once you have sent your answers, you can log this cache - no need for wait for a reply. I'll get back to you if there is something to follow up on.
