Randers hjerte
Det gamle rådhus, Niels Ebbesen og Rådhustorvet Rådhustorvet er hjertet i det gamle Randers. På torvet er der året rundt mange begivenheder, store som små. Om sommeren forvandles torvet til en levende Rådhushave med plads til aktiviteter eller til bare at slappe af og kigge på dem, der går forbi.
Det gamle rådhus
Det gamle rådhus blev indviet i 1778 og lå frem til 1930 tre meter længere mod syd end dets nuværende placering. I løbet af 1920erne var biltrafikken i Randers steget så meget, at vejene måtte udvides – og der lå Rådhuset i vejen. Hele bygningen blev hævet, og jernbjælker blev lagt ind under den. Så kunne man trække Rådhuset til dets nye plads med tov. Det tog tre dage, før det var på plads. I dag markerer en granitvinkel i fortovet, hvor Rådhuset oprindeligt lå. Det gamle Rådhus bruges i dag til byrådsmøder, vielser og officielle modtagelser. '
Statuen af Niels Ebbesen
Midt på Rådhustorvet står statuen af Niels Ebbesen, der i 1340 dræbte den tyske Grev Gert. Statuen blev opført for 130 år siden som et resultat af den stemning, der prægede Danmark efter tabet af Sønderjylland i 1864. Danskerne ledte efter helte og nationalsymboler, og Niels Ebbesen var med sit oprør mod tyskerne en oplagt kandidat. Statuen kigger derfor også mod syd – så han kan holde øje med tyskerne. Det syv meter høje monument blev designet af billedhugger F.E. Ring og opført for penge fra den lokale borgerkomité. Selve statuen er lavet af gamle kanoner fra orlogsskibet Dannebrog.
Rådhustorvet
På Rådhustorvet finder du forskellige restauranter, butikker og byens lokale turistbureau VisitRanders, der har til huse i Sct. Clemens Gaard tidl. Kjøbenhavns Handelsbank. Huset blev opført af Kjøbenhavns Handelsbank som bankens hovedsæde i Randers. På toppen af huset er der 3 skulpturer: Havets Gud, Neptun, handlens Gud, Merkur og smedekunstens Gud, Vulkan som symboler på byens vigtigste erhverv dengang: søfart, handel og industri.

The heart of Randers
Rådhustorvet is the heart of the old Randers. In the square there are many events all year round, big and small. In the summer, the square is transformed into a vibrant townhouse garden with space for activities or just to relax and look at those who pass by.
The old town hall
The old town hall was inaugurated in 1778 and lay up to 1930 three meters further south than its current location. During the 1920s, car traffic in Randers had increased so much that the roads had to be expanded - and there was the town hall in the way. The whole building was raised, and iron beams were laid under it. Then one could pull the town hall to its new place with rope. It took three days before it was in place. Today, a granite angle marks the sidewalk, where the town hall was originally located. The old town hall is used today for city council meetings, weddings and official receptions.
The statue of Niels Ebbesen
In the middle of Rådhustorvet stands the statue of Niels Ebbesen, who in 1340 killed the German Count Gert in the Middle Ages. The statue was created 140 years ago as a result of the nationalistic mood that characterized Denmark after the loss of Southern Jutland in 1864. The Danes were looking for heroes and national symbols, and Niels Ebbesen was with his rebellion against the Germans an obvious candidate. The statue therefore also looks to the south - so he can keep an eye on the Germans. The seven-meter-high monument was designed by the sculptor F.E. Ring and paid for with money from the local Citizens' Committee. The statue itself is made of old cannons from the naval ship Dannebrog.
Rådhustorvet
On Rådhustorvet (e.i. The Town Hall Square) you will find various restaurants, shops and the city's local tourist office VisitRanders, which is housed in Sct. Clemens Gaard, formerly Copenhagen Merchants Bank. The house was built by the bank as the bank's head office in Randers. On the ground has previously been a cemetery and the city's fire- house. At the top of the house there are 3 sculptures: The God of the Sea, Neptune, the God of Commerce, Mercury and the God of Forge, Vulcan as symbols of the city's main occupation at that time: shipping, commerce and industry.
