My Grade 5 class spends their entire year learning about Canada. Help my Grade 5 students celebrate this wonderful country of ours. They are monitoring this cache and learning about latitude and longitude by geocaching. They get excited every time someone stops here.
Canada is a grand country with so many wonderful things to see from coast to coast. There is a sign on the Trans-Canada Highway at 96°48'35"W (slightly east of Winnipeg proclaiming it the longitudinal centre of Canada). It is, in effect, the north-south line midway between the extreme points of Canada on the east and west, including islands (including Newfoundland since 1949).
With signs on both sides of the Trans-Canadian Highway, anyone traveling horizontally across Canada in either direction will know exactly when they are half-way there. The sign is also presented in both English and French so that no one is left out of the cartographic fun. The exact coordinates are 96° 48’ 35” as noted on the road signs and the spot was determined to be the center of the country based on the distance from its farthest outlying islands on either side.
At the roadside pullout on the NORTH side of the highway, there is a Centre of Canada Park. At that park, there is a library at the posted coordinates. To log this cache. send the answer to the following questions to the Cache Owner verifying yiou were there.
PART A - My students love going to the library... so go to the library nearby. PRIVATE MESSAGE me the answers to these THREE QUESTIONS. DO NOT INCLUDE THE ANSWERS IN YOUR 'FOUND IT" LOG ON THIS PAGE.
- What is the library charter number?
- What is the grade of the students who built the library?
- Who adopted it?
PART B - Pictures of yourself at the sign IN YOUR ONLINE "FOUND IT" LOG would be much appreciated but are not required.
