Geocache Description:

1. In order to claim this Virtual, you "MUST" post a picture of yourself at the rock site doing what is asked, OR, answer the questions below.
2. Logs "WILL" be deleted if not meeting these simple guidelines. If you can't follow these simple rules, this cache is not for you and you need to move on. No excuses. I put to much time and effort into this special edition virtual to allow armchair logs. Sorry.

This virtual will take you to several geologic sites...or maybe not. Read on.
Coordinates given are for the Broken Arrow trailhead parking and 4x4 start area.

Devils Dining Room Sinkhole: N34 50.424 W111 45.308
The geologic formation at this location occured when the limestone layers (found at depth), dissolved, creating a cave like feature. The overlying sandstone layers collapsed into this void, creating a sinkhole.

From the signage located here, answer these 2 questions:
A. How large, and how deep is the sinkhole? (XX' by XX', and XX' to XX' below the rim).
B. "What" is more disturbing to the bats? (XXXXXXXXXX).

Submarine Rock: N34 50.260 W111 44.825
The white spots found scattered around this geologic formation were once areas of organic material that became entrapped within the quartz and feldspar particles (sand) as sedimentation occured (or so I was told by a Pink Jeep tour guide). Most of these white spots are round or elongated and are easily seen against the red rock background. At the coordinates find the spot that has been split in two, with one side not aligning with the other. This is caused by a fault line with movement that goes directly through this certain spot.

Make your observations and answer these 2 questions:
C. What is the offset distance between the 2 seperate sections?
D. Use your GPS. In what direction does the failt line run? North/South, or East/West?

Mushroom Rock: N34 50.028 W111 45.133
These coordinates take you to an exposed rock formation. Formations such as this can be formed by various processes including glacial action, mass wasting (landslide), wind, human intervention, water (stream/ocean/rain), and/or chemical weathering (dissolving of the surrounding rock) and others.

Answer the 2 questions posted below:
E. What 2 processes do you believe were the most active in the formation of this feature?   F. The average weight of sandstone is approximately 150 pounds per cubic foot.  What is the overall weight of this geologic formation? H x W x L x 150lbs = ? tons (careful) ;-)

Chicken Point: N34 49.743 W111 45.287
The views from Chicken Point are the best around. At the Chicken Point coordinates, you will find a raised block of rock. I will absolve you of all other requirements (answering the afore mentioned questions), if you take....and post, a "rotated" picture of yourself laying on your right side, holding your left arm up, legs out, and gripping the left side rock edge with your right hand, as seen in the above photo. Try to keep the sky out of the background as it diminishes the wanted effect of the photo. Get creative. Have fun. Enjoy the views.

So either send me the answers to A, B, C, D, E, and F....
"OR" post your picture in your "found it" log to get credit for this cache.

The 4x4 route is under 4 miles out and back. The Devil's Staircase, a short, steep, slippery drop is the hardest section where low gear and 33's will certainly help. At a minimum I recommend high clearance and 4 wheel drive. The hiking trail starting at the Broken Arrow parking area at the end of Morgan Road is about 3 miles out to Chicken Point and back, without going to Submarine rock. The Submarine Rock side trail adds another 1.5 miles out and back. I'm guessing at mileage (Forgot to turn tracker on). Chicken point can also be accessed from the Little Horse Trail starting at the North Bell Rock Trail parking area. This hike is under 4 miles out and back. Chapel Trail connects to Little Horse Trail and is about 2.25 miles out and back to Chicken Point. I have not hiked this trail. Broken Arrow and Little Horse Trails are 2 of my favorite hiking trails in Sedona. A Red Rock Pass is required at both parking areas I believe, but is not required for incidental stopping to take a photograph or to enjoy a scenic vista (15 minutes or less) as when doing this by 4x4.
