Lake Rotoroa lies within the borders of Nelson Lakes National Park. Although the larger of the two main lakes it is less accessible and less developed than its neighbor Lake Rotoiti. The lake is fed by the D'Urville and Sabine rivers. The greatest depth is 145 metres and the lake is completely surrounded by beech forest. The Gowan River flows out of the lake near this cache site, thus making the lake one of the sources of the Buller River system. A track follows the northeast side of the lake and a water taxi travels the length of the lake to ferry trampers to and from the tracks at the head of the lake. The lake has introduced trout, which attract recreational fishermen.
LOGGING REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this virtual, you need to
1)Post a photo taken as shown of the lake with the mountains at the far end of the lake in view if the weather is good enough. The photo does not require you or your GPS in the shot.
2)Message me what the artifact is under the shelter at GZ.
3)Message me, according to the information board, how long and wide this artifact is.
4)You may log the cache once the above logging requirements have been met. I will only get back to you if a find has been logged without the above conditions being met. I may also delete your log if I get no response.
