Welcome to Greenland. This sign is one of the first landmarks visitors to Greenland will visit and most travellers passing Kangerlussuaq airport have their picture taken here. The sign was erected by Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) in November 1954 when a new Copenhagen to Los Angeles flight - first flight across the Arctic - was inaugurated. The sign was initially placed near "The Danish Hotel" but was moved to its present location just outside the airport in 1960.
To log this virtual reward please take a picture of the iconic sign with either:
- your hand holding a piece of paper etc. with your geocacher name on it
- your GPS (you do not need to have your face in the picture)
and post it together with your log.
The date you log the geocache needs to be the date the picture was taken.
Please write in your log where you came from and/or where you were going. The airport in Kangerlussuaq is the major transit hub for Greenland as the weather in Kangerlussuaq is nice and stable, and most people are here shortly to pass through where others stay a few days to see the ice cap or go hiking in the summer or dog sledding in the winter.
Logs that does not fulfill the requirement will be deleted without warning. Please no old vacation photos or copying from the internet. To claim this as a find, you need to visit the sign yourself, not as a couch surfer.
Note: The sign is in a public accessible area just outside the airport. You can easily visit the sign in between flights, as it will take only a few minutes to walk there from when you exit the terminals.
Dansk: Velkommen til Grønland. Skiltet er et ikonisk vartegn for Grønland som de fleste turister, som besøger Grønland, ser som noget af det første og de fleste får taget deres billede netop her. Skiltet blev sat op af luftfartsselskabet SAS i November 1954 i forbindelse med indvielsen af den første transarktiske flyvning mellem København og Los Angeles. Skiltet stod først ved "Det danske hotel" men blev flyttet til sin nuværende position i 1960.

Kangerlussuaq Airport er tit en mellemstation for Jer som rejser til mange egne af Grønland omend området selv har meget at byde på med sin smukke natur og nærhed til indlandsisen og vandring i skønne fjelde om sommeren og hundeslæde- og nordlys ture om vinteren.
Bemærk: Skiltet er i et offentligt tilgængeligt område lige udenfor lufthavnen med udsigt til startbanen. Skiltet kan du nemt besøge hvis du har nogle få minutter mellem to flyvninger.
