Geocache Description:

The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, nicknamed the "Katy," began operating in Sedalia in 1873. Limestone from the nearby Georgetown Quarry was used in construction. The building included two stories, a basement, and a 500 foot long brick passenger platform. The depot was officially opened in 1896 with a total construction cost of over $45,000. It served the community for over 60 years until the last passenger train left the depot in 1958.

Today the depot serves as a welcome center, souvenir shop, and a stop at mile post 227 for Katy Trail State Park, the longest developed hiking and biking rail to trail system in the country at 240 miles, stretching from Clinton, Missouri, to St. Charles, Missouri.
