INFORMATION ON THE TOWER The parking lot of the observation tower is situated in the immediate vicinity of the Saari Folk Park, on the right side of the road if you arrive from the direction of Forssa.
Suomen vanhin puurakenteinen näkötorni on 21 metriä korkea. Tornista suunniteltiin 18-metrinen, mutta rakennustöiden edetessä haluttiin vielä lisätä 3 metriä. Sijainti harjulla Hämeen järviylängöllä korostaa vaikutelmaa, joten huipulla saattaa hieman huimata aluksi.
The height of this oldest wooden observation tower in Finland is 21 meters. It was designed to be 18 m tall but on the course of the construction work it got 3 meters more height. Its location on a range in the uplands of the Häme province enhances the impression and you can feel a little dizzy on the top at first.

The intention of the Society of Local History and Culture founded in 1923 was to accomplish an observation tower on Kaukola ridge.
Yhdistys vuokrasi 50 vuodeksi tontin Saaren kartanolta, jonka harjulle näkötorni rakennettiin talkootöinä.
The society got a piece of land on lease for 50 years from the Saari mansion which owned the ridge where the tower was built as collective voluntary work.

The observation tower was designed by A. Nummi, a building engineer from Forssa.
1926 Näkötorni vihittiin käyttöön 4.7.

1992 Puuverhous pellitettiin. Kaikki ulospäin näkyvät ikkunat ja tasanteet sekä tornin sisätilat ovat alkuperäisiä. Vain toisen kerroksen seinät on maalattu.
1992 The wooden outer surface was covered with corrugated iron. All the windows and decks seen from the outside are still original as well as the indoor rooms of the building except the walls of the second floor which were painted.
1995 Hämeen Heimoliitto valitsi Kanta-Hämeen kauneimmaksi maisemaksi.
1995 The landscape around the tower was nominated ‘the most beautiful landscape of Kanta-Häme Province’ by Häme Heimoliitto (organization which promotes and protects the cultural values in the province)
