Geocache Description:

Meet BOB! The iconic Big Orange Bridge that is synonymous with the city of Nelson!

BOB spans the West Arm of Kootenay Lake, connecting Nelson to the North Shore. It was built in 1957 to replace the 1913 cable ferry that had previously served the people of the area. There was a toll for all vehicles crossing the bridge for the first 5 years! Originally silver, the bridge was painted an eyecatching orange in the late 1960s and has never looked back.

Unforgettable to see, BOB has had a role in many tv shows and movies. A split second shot on How I Met Your Mother allows Ted to explain that it is a cantilevered design. 2018 Great Canadian Race had contestants swing from the center span and land in the water (but don’t you do it, that would be illegal!).

I love this bridge, and I love photos, paintings, and artistic representations of this bridge. In order to log this virtual cache GO TO THE COORDINATES THEN please choose ONE of the following options:

1) take a photo of yourself (your face does not have to be included) or a body part with the bridge in the background FROM THE POSTED COORDINATES. Post the photo with your log

2) draw an original picture, construct a model or produce some art of the bridge and take a photo of it with the bridge in the background from the posted coordinates. Post the photo with your log<\p>

3) look for the decking panels on the end of the dock: how many double rows of holes are there in each panel? email me the answer through geocaching. com messages.  You do not need confirmation to log the cache.

Some people have not been going to the coordinates - that is part of the virtual challenge!
