Geocache Description:

A virtual cache placed to celebrate our 10 Year caching anniversary. Ambleside is one of our favourite places in the world and was the place where we found our second cache on 28th June 2009. We have been in Ambleside pretty much every year since, although after the first 6 years we no longer have our main Summer holiday here. Each year we stayed, it was in the Rookery Cottages on Stock Ghyll and we visited both stages of this Virtual each time we were in the Lakes.

This Virtual takes you to two spots on Stock Ghyll. First the iconic Bridge House and then a walk up through the woods to a viewpoint at the Force. At both places there is some information to collect, which must be messaged to us, and a photo to post with your log. Unless all 4 tasks are completed, your log will not be accepted. See more below. The walk up to Stock Ghyll Force is well marked. It's muddy in places and boots would be recommended.

There is a very large pay car park very close to Bridge House. However, there are various places where you can park for free for an hour using the parking discs available from local shops. We have marked one of these places as a parking waypoint. An hour will be plenty of time to complete your tasks.

Task 1:

Go to the starting coordinates. This is a spot just the other side of the hedge from Bridge House. There is a drain cover (a pedant might call it a manhole cover, but surely there is a drain underneath) in the ground. There are two numbers at the bottom of it. What are they? Message them to us. Now, take a picture of yourself, your GPS or (even better) a scrap of paper with your caching name on it with Bridge House in the background and post it in your log with the one below.

Task 2:

Next, walk up past the Market Cross and Salutation Hotel before turning into Stockghyll Lane. Wind your way up the hill to the parking waypoint and enter the woods there. Follow the marker posts up through the woods, generally keeping right until you find a large viewing area with picnic table. The waypoint coordinates may well be rubbish under the trees but you can't miss it! You'll know you are at the right place because there are quite a few padlocks on the fence. What you need to message us here is the number of semicircles along the top of the fence. There are lots of them and we will allow an error of one either side. Remember the few on the lower level at the left of the fence. Again you need to send us the number and post a picture of yourself, your GPS or (even better) a scrap of paper with your caching name on it with the Force in the background.

That's it. Simples. Two answers to us and two pictures in your log. If caching groups do this together then we need answers and pics from all please.
