Ab März 1945 wurden tausende Juden aus den Konzentrationslagern Mauthausen und Gusen sowie ihren Nebenlagern ins Anhalte- und Sammellager Gunskirchen getrieben. Es befand sich im Hochholz auf dem Gemeindegebiet Edt bei Lambach. Heute liegen in diesem Waldstück noch unzählige Überreste von Kleidungstücken, Decken, Schuhen, Geschirr, persönlichen Gegenständen von jenen, die unter unmenschlichsten Bedingungen hier gefangen waren. An die 22.000 jüdische Männer, Frauen und Kinder wurden in den letzten Wochen des NS-Regimes vom Zeltlager in Mauthausen nach Gunskirchen überstellt. Das Zeltlager war ab August 1944 ein provisorischer Lagerbereich für eine immer größer werdende Zahl Juden im KZ Mauthausen. Als sich dort Seuchen ausbreiteten und auch das Hauptlager bedroht war, wurde Anfang März 1945 die Liquidierung des Zeltlagers angeordnet und dieses "Judenlager" in den Wald bei Gunskirchen verlegt.

Heute erinnern ein Denkmal an der B1 (Headerkoordinaten), sowie ein Gedenkstein mit einer Gedenktafel (N48 06.835 E013 56.426), die am ehemaligen Haupteingang des Lagers stehen, an das grausame Geschehen an diesem Ort.
Viele Einheimische bezeichnen das Denkmal an der B1 fälschlicher Weise als 'Kriegerdenkmal', das liegt auch daran, dass die Thematik in der Schule der 60'er und 70'er Jahrgänge nie richtig aufgearbeitet wurde. Das hat sich Gott sei Dank geändert! Bei der jährlichen Gedenkfeier liefern die Kinder und die Lehrerschaft der HS Gunskirchen sehr gut aufbereitete, rührende Beiträge.
Als Logbedingung ersuche ich euch:
1) jeweils ein Foto vom Denkmal an der B1 und vom KZ-Gedenkstein/Tafel mit euch drauf, dem Log anzuhängen. Das Gesicht könnt ihr ja auspixeln falls ihr das so wollt.
2) empfehle ich euch alle 3 Inschriften sorgfältig durchlesen, damit dass länger bei euch in Erinnerung bleibt.

It must never be forgotten where the loss of humanity and the disrespect for human life will lead!
From March 1945, thousands of Jews from the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camps and their subcamps were driven to the Gunskirchen detention and collection camp. It was located in Hochholz on the municipal territory of Edt near Lambach. Today there are still countless remains of clothing, blankets, shoes, crockery, personal belongings of those who were trapped here under inhuman conditions. About 22,000 Jewish men, women and children were transferred from the tent camp in Mauthausen to Gunskirchen during the last weeks of the Nazi regime. From August 1944, the tent camp was a provisional camp area for an ever-increasing number of Jews in the Mauthausen concentration camp. When epidemics spread there and the main camp was threatened, the liquidation of the tent camp was ordered at the beginning of March 1945 and this "Jewish camp" was moved to the forest near Gunskirchen.

Today a monument at the B1 (header coordinates), as well as a memorial stone with a plaque (N48 06.835 E013 56.426), which stand at the former main entrance of the camp, remind of the cruel happening at this place.
Many locals erroneously refer to the monument on B1 as a 'war memorial', which is also due to the fact that the subject was never properly dealt with in the school of the 60s and 70s. Thank God that has changed! At the annual commemoration ceremony, the children and teachers of the HS Gunskirchen make very well prepared, touching contributions.
As a log. requirement I ask you:
1) one photo each of the memorial at the B1 and the KZ memorial stone / plaque with you to attach to the log. You can pixelate your face if you like.
2) I recommend that you read all 3 inscriptions carefully so that you remember them longer.
