Geocache Description:

When the State of Michigan began to create the Counties "up north" plotting out the land around the Manistee River, they did not specify exactly where the County Seat would be in Wexford County. This set up an opportunity for the local politicians and business men to use their influence on voters to move the location of the county seat to a place that better served their financial gain. There were less than 1000 hardy pioneers who resided in Wexford County, concentrated between the villages of Sherman, Manton and Cadillac. These folks felt very strongly about the location of the County Seat as it meant more settlers, businesses and commerce would be concentrated in that location. Thus the Battle was on! Please send the answers to the following questions to claim the smiley. Most answers are located at ground zero, but you will need to explore the area a little to get a couple of the answers. Have fun!

1. What month and year did the Battle happened? 2. Who was victorious? 3. What is the date the Michigan Historical Commission placed the plaque? 4. What organization erected the Pavilion nearby? 5. Who was person the Horseshoe pits memorialized? Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the Park! .
