HEUREKA! Virtual Cache

Heureka ist der Titel einer kinetischen Plastik des Schweizer Künstlers Jean Tinguely, die sich ohne erkennbaren Zweck bewegt. Sie war Jean Tinguelys erste öffentliche Arbeit und wurde in den Jahren 1963 und 1964 für die die Schweizerische Landesausstellung 1964 in Lausanne geschaffen. Seit 1967 steht sie beim Zürichhorn in Zürich.

Der Titel «Heureka» (altgr. ηὕρηκα) ist ein Zitat des Archimedes von Syrakus und bedeutet «Ich hab’s gefunden». Es ist ein Ausspruch, der auf Erfinder oder Forscher passt, wenn sie eine bahnbrechende und meist nutzbringende Erfindung oder Entdeckung gemacht haben. Sie ist deshalb für eine absolut nutzlose Maschine ironisch zu verstehen. Tinguely selbst sagte:  «Der Titel Heureka – positiv, schön, korrekt – sollte offensichtlich in die Irre führen. Tatsächlich handelt es sich um einen Scherz.»

Für Jean Tinguely stellt die Maschine Humor und Poesie dar. Er schaffe als Künstler «freie und fröhliche» Maschinen. Die vielen Räder der Plastik seien Symbole für die Weisheit und den Wahnsinn in einem.

Während der Landesausstellung gab es unterschiedliche Meinungen. Einige hielten die Maschine für einen üblen Scherz, andere interpretierten es als Satire auf die Tyrannei der Technik in der Zivilisation und wieder andere beurteilten die Plastik als ein sehr einfallsreiches Gebilde und in ihrer Gesamtheit eine Schönheit.

Betriebszeiten: 1. April bis 15. Oktober täglich um 11 Uhr, 15 Uhr und 19 Uhr, jeweils acht Minuten lang.

Um diesen Virtual Cache zu loggen muss einzig folgende Bedingung erfüllt werden:

Logs die Bedingung 1 nicht erfüllen, müssen gemäss Geocaching-Regeln gelöscht werden.

Eureka (or Heureka in German) is the title of a kinetic sculpture by the Swiss artist Jean Tinguely that moves for no apparent purpose. It was Jean Tinguely's first public work and was created between 1963 and 1964 for the Swiss National Exhibition in 1964 in Lausanne. It has been at the Zürichhorn in Zurich since 1967.

The title «Heureka» (old Greek ηὕρηκα) is a quote from Archimedes of Syracuse and means «I found it». It is a saying that fits inventors or researchers when they have made a groundbreaking and mostly beneficial invention or discovery. It is therefore to be understood ironically for an absolutely useless machine. Tinguely himself said: «The title Eureka - positive, beautiful, correct - should obviously be misleading. In fact, it's a joke. »

For Jean Tinguely, the machine represents humor and poetry. As an artist, he creates “free and happy” machines. The many wheels of the sculpture are symbols of wisdom and madness in one.

There were different opinions during the Swiss National Exhibition. Some considered the machine a bad joke, others interpreted it as a satire on the tyranny of technology in civilization, yet others judged the sculpture as a very imaginative structure and in its entirety a beauty.

To log this virtual cache the following condition has to be fulfilled:

2. (optional): Let us know your opinion / thoughts about the Eureka.

Logs that do not meet condition 1 will be deleted in accordance with geocaching rules.

Eurêka (ou Heureka en Allemand) est le titre d'une sculpture cinétique de l'artiste suisse Jean Tinguely qui bouge sans raison apparente. Il s'agit de la première œuvre publique de Jean Tinguely et a été créée entre 1963 et 1964 pour l'Exposition nationale suisse en 1964 à Lausanne. Elle est installée au Zürichhorn de Zurich depuis 1967.

Le titre «Heureka» (ancien grec ηὕρηκα) est une formule d'Archimède de Syracuse et signifie «j'ai trouvé». C'est une expression qui convient aux inventeurs ou aux chercheurs lorsqu'ils ont fait une invention ou une découverte révolutionnaire et salutaire. Le nom de cette sculpture est à comprendre avec ironie: la machine est donc à considérer comme rigoureusement inutile. Tinguely lui-même a déclaré: «Le titre Euréka - positif, beau, correct - devrait évidemment être trompeur. En fait, c'est une blague. »

Pour Jean Tinguely, la machine représente l'humour et la poésie. En tant qu'artiste, il crée des machines «libres et heureuses». Les nombreuses roues en plastique symbolisent l'union entre sagesse et folie.

Il y avait différentes opinions lors de l'exposition nationale. Certains considéraient la machine comme une mauvaise blague, d'autres l'interprétaient comme une satire sur la tyrannie de la technologie dans la civilisation, et d'autres encore jugeaient le plastique comme une structure très imaginative et une beauté dans son ensemble.

Les enregistrements qui ne remplissent pas la condition 1 doivent être supprimés conformément aux règles de géocaching.
