Geocache Description:

Slieve Donard (Sliabh Donairt) is the highest mountain in Ulster and Northern Ireland, it's a good climb from sea level to 849 metres and can be climbed from many directions. The most popular are from Donard carpark or Bloody Bridge carpark both are FREE and with no height restrictors.

The Mourne Wall passes over Slieve Donard and fifteen other mountains to enclose the Silent valley and Ben Crom reservoirs, It was built in the early 20th century by Belfast Water Commissioners to supply the growing city with fresh water. The wall goes up the western slope and then down the southern slope. It took 18 years to build, you can follow the wall of the last part of the climb.

On a sunny day you can get views to Scotland, Isle of Man, Snowdon in Wales and The Dublin/Wicklow mountains but be prepared for the weather to change, low cloud can cover the area quickly and it can be very windy up here. Bring a map and compass with you OSNI Discoverer Map 29 1:50 000 scale or the excellent Mourne Mountains Activity Map 1:25 000 scale.

Take sensible precautions when parking you car, hide your valuables or take them with you.
