Hội An - Honeymoon

english description
 |
On August 10th, 2019, we said yes. It was our little perfect dream wedding. Our honeymoon in Vietnam should be beautiful. Unfortunately, the new COVID-19 forced us to leave the country prematurely. Safety first. We are still very sad because we fell in love with the country, the lovely and friendly people and the delicious food. Especially in the city of Hội An. We will be back, for sure, as soon as possible. This Geocache is supposed to remind us of this wonderful city and should lead you to this charming old town. |
|
Hội An
The old town of Hội An is just beautiful. Hội An has 75.000 inhabitants and is under the protection of the UNESCO and has been declared to a World Heritage Site. In the 16th century Hội An grew to become the most important trading port in Vietnam, because trade between China and Japan was carried out here. At that time there was an upswing and some sailors settled there. As you can imagine, valuable silk, porcelain and Chinese medicine were traded here. European sailors from Portugal, the Netherlands, England and France also came here to buy valuable goods. At the end of the 19th century, the port of Hội An quickly lost its importance as the trade was carried out via coastal cities in what is now Malaysia.
Fortunately, Hội An was spared the severe damage from the Vietnam War, so you will find a unique mix of styles from Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese architecture.
To visit the ancient old town you have to buy a ticket. This ticket is valid for five historic houses or religious places of worship of your choice. Price: 120,000 VND (about € 4,50)!

Log Tasks
Hoi An is extraordinary beautiful at night when all these lights and lanterns exude a very special charm. The lights reflect themselves in the river and you can place candles in the river for your wishes.
This is not a night cache but I can really recommend to do this virtual geocache during the darkness. Go to the header coordinates. The first task is to take a picture of you with the old sign "Hoi An".
If this sign isn't there any more, take a picture of the new sign in the middle of the bridge. I can't force anyone to take a picture of themselves these days (data protection, etc.), but there are other ways to take this photo.
For example, take a piece of paper, your hand or other objects, write your nickname on it and take the picture, that's perfectly fine. The picture can look like the photo from below. Add this photo to your log entry. Other photos are always welcome, but obligatory.
For the second task send the answers of the following three easy questions to DaNBucH (please use the English or German language). You do not have to wait for a log permission, if anything does not fit, I will contact you.
- Count the number of large columns on each side of the bridge.
- Count the beautiful, round ornaments under the handrails on both sides of the bridge.
- On the South side of the bridge there is a striking, large rock. The full names of the people that were involved are immortalized on it. Count the number of different countries from which the participants came.
If you liked this geocache as much as we like this city, we would be very happy about a virtual, blue heart. :)
