Le Mura di Bergamo
Le Mura di Bergamo presentano un perimetro di circa 6 km e un'altezza compresa tra 10.5 e 21 metri visibili al visitatore già dal casello autostradale.
Furono costruite tra il 1561 e il 1588 per opera del governo della Repubblica Serenissima di Venezia per difenderne i confini occidentali.
I lavori costarono 1.000.000 di ducati d'oro , divisero Bergamo in due , fra la parte alta rinchiusa nelle Mura e i borghi storici nella parta bassa isolati.
Città Alta, come venne definita da quel momento la parte di Bergamo costruita sui colli, divenne un centro militare inespugnabile, staccato dal resto dell'abitato cittadino attraverso una zona inedificabile. Ma questi baluardi non vennero mai attaccati dal nemico.
Nel corso dei secoli le mura sono rimaste intatte ; nell'Ottocento vennero acquistate dal comune che creò un viale alberato oggi conosciuto come Viale delle Mura .
Nel 1887 la cinta muraria venne forata per la creazione della galleria della funicolare.
Attualmente le Mura Veneziane fanno parte dei patrimoni dell'Unesco.

The Walls of Bergamo
The walls of Bergamo have a perimeter of about 6 km and a height of between 10.5 and 21 meters visible to the visitors all the way from the motorway exit.
They were built between 1561 and 1588 by the government of the Serenissima Republic of Venice to defend its western borders.
Construction cost 1,000,000 gold ducats, and divided Bergamo in two, with the upper part enclosed in the Walls and the historic boroughs in the lower part, isolated.
Città Alta (Upper Town), as it was defined from that moment on, became an impregnable military center, detached from the rest of the town thanks to a non buildable strip of land.
But these bastions were never attacked by the enemy.
Over the centuries the walls have remained intact; in the nineteenth century they were bought by the municipality that created a tree-lined avenue known today as Viale delle Mura.
In 1887 the walls were drilled to create the funicular tunnel.
Currently the Venetian Walls are part of Unesco's heritage.
To validate the cache:
1) go to the coordinates expressed in the listing and count the number of large rectangular stones that form the parapet of the walls between the two points marked with the red arrow and the green arrow as per the image below: you will have to send me your answer by e-mail (a tolerance of a unit is allowed)
