Geocache Description:

BACKGROUND:

The first time I traveled to Windsor, I found the inspiration for this Virtual – The Gateway to Freedom (GCJH56). The final question on that cache was to answer “Where are they looking at?” I thought it rather strange that they would be pointing to the massive complex nearby. (My description is purposely vague because I do not want to give away any answers to that virtual.) However, about a year later I parked here at GZ to take care of some business and discovered the real place the sculptor intended for his Detroit monument statues to be looking.

LOGGING REQUIREMENTS:

In order to log this Virtual, you must message Monk-E Arms the answers to the following two questions within 30 days or your log will be deleted. (NOTE - in group find situations, only one message for the whole group is necessary.  Please list all group members in the message.)

  1. The figure in the monument closest to the river is looking back to Detroit. Load GCJH56 onto your GPS.  (I had horrid signal bounce at GZ.  You might need to walk toward the river to get an accurate GPS reading.)  As near as you can tell, is this person looking in the direction of the companion monument in Detroit?

  2. On the east side of the monument's base is a list of names of individuals and couples who were key figures. Mary and her husband were one such power couple. Go find his portrait at Virtual Stage 02.  Underneath his portrait, what does the sign say was his historic achievement?

  3. PHOTO – post in your log a photo from your visit. You do not need to include your face in the picture – but please include something unique that indicates you were physically there (for instance, your GPS or a sign with your geocaching name on it.) The photo may be at ground zero, either of the two listed waypoints for this virtual, or you can choose to document your hunt for Mary's husband's grave, which according to findagrave.com is located at St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery. (I could not find it.)

Congratulations to eM-Burr on being FTF!
