Geocache Description:

"Life's like a movie, write your own ending. Keep believing, keep pretending." - Jim Henson

Posted coordinates will take you to the Jim Henson Statue and Memorial Garden at the University of Maryland. Parking is tight on campus, the signs can be confusing, and DOTS is super humanly fast plopping tickets on windshields of parking offenders. There is metered street parking on campus and I have posted the visitors pay lot and a parking garage in the waypoints.

Jim Henson, who graduated from the University of Maryland in 1960, was an American puppeteer, animator, cartoonist, actor, inventor, filmmaker, and screenwriter who achieved worldwide notice as the creator of The Muppets. Henson started with televised puppetry while still in high school. By his freshman year at the University of Maryland in 1955, Henson had scored a bi-weekly bit on a local Washington D.C. NBC affiliate, Sam and Friends where Kermit the Frog got his start.

In 1969 he joined ground-breaking educational children's television show called Sesame Street, a show developed to appeal to preschoolers. Henson helped create an iconic family of characters such as Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, Grover, Cookie Monster, and Big Bird to populate the show. Still today these characters continue to teach children how to count, learn the alphabet, and master other educational concepts.

Henson went on to create The Muppet Show, HBO’s first original program Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and six feature films starring the Muppets before he passed away in 1990 at the age of 53.

Here at the posted coordinates the former University of Maryland art student and his creation are immortalized in bronze on a bench in front of the Stamp Student Union. The idea for a Henson statue came from the Maryland class of 1998, whose members wanted to remember Henson with a gift for the important influence he had over children’s lives.

LOGGING REQUIREMENTS:

1. Either message me what is written on Jim Henson's backside.

OR

2. Post a picture of you, your written geocaching name, or signature item with Jim Henson and Kermit the frog (You can be in it but that is not required.).
