Lipputorni - Flag tower
Kahdeksankulmainen tiilinen lipputorni rakennettiin Helsingin bastionin kärkeen vuonna 1790 linnoituksen komentajan lipputorniksi. Bastioni ja tornia ympyröivä valli purettiin kaupungin laajentumisen tieltä ja sotilaallisen uhan poistuttua vuonna 1889. Nykyisin Helsingin bastionin paikalla sijaitsee kauppatori.
Haminan rauhan 100-vuotisjuhlan jälkeen vuonna 1909 lipputorni tunnettiin myös nimellä rauhantorni, nimitys ihmetytti jo tuolloin koska eihän tornilla ollut itse rauhan kanssa mitään tekemistä mutta muistuttaahan se edelleen 17.syyskuuta 1809 Ruotsin ja Venäjän välille solmitusta Haminan rauhasta. Vuonna 1909 tornin ulkopuolelle kiinnitetyt Suomen sodan 1808–1809 venäläismuistoista kertovat marmoritaulut irrotettiin 1918, kunnes palautettiin jälleen torniin 1980 luvulla, nyt tosin sisäpuolelle. Torni kunnostettiin vuonna 1981.

The octagonal shape brick tower was built to the head of the bastion of Helsinki in 1790 as the flag tower of the commander of the fortress. The bastion and the rampart surrounding the tower were demolished from the city expansion and after the military threat disappeared in 1889. Nowadays there is a market square in the place of the bastion of Helsinki
After the 100th anniversary of Treaty of Hamina in 1909, the tower was also known as the
Peace tower. At that time, the name was surprised at the fact that the tower had nothing to do with peace treaty itself, but it still reminds us of the peace between Sweden and Russia on 17 September 1809. In 1909 the marble tiles at russian memories from the Finnish War (21 February 1808 – 17 September 1809), attached to the outside of the tower, were detached in 1918, until they were restored to the tower in the 1980s, now to the interior. The tower was renovated in 1981
