The Eagle Eye Cache is located close to little bald head campsite on the spout trail. The cache should not be hard to find, but will take several hours to hike to, you may wish to stay over night.
The Eagle Eye Cache is located close to little bald head campsite on the spout trail. The cache should not be hard to find, but will take several hours to hike to, you may wish to stay over night.
The Eagle Eye Cache is located close to little bald head campsite on the "spout trail", about 600m south along the coast from the spout. The cache should not be hard to find, it is about 45m off the trail, close, but not dangerously close to the cliff edge. There is no need to go close to the cliff edge to find the cache (if your GPS directs you to head over the cliff ignore it!). The trail is long and should not the attempted without some preparation. The East Coast Trail association offer a great set of maps which include the "Spout Trail". The trip can be done in a day, but I recommend a two day hike with a stop over at the campsite.
The trail is amazing, you walk through old growth woodland, along cliff tops, You see the spout, which is a wave driven fresh water geyser that blows water high into the sky, then inhales more air for the next eruption, it feels like the earth it's self is breathing! you will also see a huge column of rock rising from the sea, topped by an Eagle's nest.
This Cache gets it's name "Eagle Eye" because there was an Eagle circling over head when we placed the cache.
When placed the cache contained:
the standard pencil, sharpener and note pad.
4 assorted dinosaurs (miniature)
4 AA cell batteries
1 Geode
1 Polished hematite nugget
1 magic note pad
2 Home tied trout flies.
and was placed in a red and white salt meet bucket.
