This is a 3 stage virtual Reward. Stage one is near one of the bridges that leads to Strawberry Hill. From this location you can see the date that is written on the bridge. Remember that date for later. Stage 2 is on the top of Strawberry Hill at the Butterfly Sign.
To log this virtual your goal is to do 3 things:
1. Send me an email with the date listed on the bridge. This date will give you a general idea of how long they have been working on Golden Gate Park. The date itself is not even close to the beginning. Just one of the many things that happened along Golden Gate Park's Journey to being the fifth most visited and appreciated park in the United States.
2. In the e-mail also include How many different types of Butterflies are mentioned on the sign, and what plant is of extreme importance to one of the Butterflies? Were you able to spot the plant and any butterflies today? (Pictures are encouraged...but please no pictures of the sign.)
3. Take a picture of yourself enjoying Golden Gate Park (Pictures of your face are not required). To help make this easier I have provided a list of some of my favorite spots. Look though the list of additional waypoints and pick your favorite spot for the final qualifier. If your favorite spot is not listed feel free to take a picture of yourself or your group at any location in Golden Gate Park that is special to you (it's over 1000 acres of beauty so I'm certain you will find something you like). If you do not wish to take a picture or do not have a camera available you can answer one of the optional questions listed below as your third qualifier.
Alternative questions (These are not required unless you do not have a camera or do not want to post a picture. In this circumstance only 1 needs to be answered):
1. Bison: What year was the bison first brought to GG Park
2. Spreckles Lake: What are the turtles sitting on in the lake?
3. Windmill: What was the military rank of the officer that the windmill was dedicated to?
4. Peter Coffin (Pirate): What were the two books this statue is based on?
5. Inside the Botanical Gardens: When year was this particular type of police officer founded?
6. Outside the Zen Garden: What year and month was this donated?
7. The Starspangled Banner: What year was this erected? (This is a hard one)
8. Buddha: When and where was this cast?
9. Japanese Zen Garden: When and Who designed the garden?
10. Japanese Pagoda: When were Pagodas introduced to Japan?
Extra credit to anyone who does all of this...and even more credit if you do it all in one day.
