Christkindl
Die Pfarr- und Wallfahrtskirche Christkindl ist dem Christkind geweiht. Sie wurde 1702 von Giovanni Battista Carlone begonnen und ab 1708 von Jakob Prandtauer vollendet.
Die Gnadenfigur ist ein nur 10 cm großes, stehendes "Christkindl" aus Wachs, das Kreuz und Dornenkrone in den Händen hält. Sie befindet sich oberhalb des als Weltkugel geformten Tabernakels. Der wurde von Joseph Hieber, um 1760 erschaffen. Über dem Tabernakel dient das "Buch mit den sieben Siegeln" als Aussetzungsthron.
Der Hochaltar stammt von Jakob Prandtauer (nach dem Krippenlied "Es hat sich heut' eröffnet das himmlische Tor"), geschnitzt von Leonhard Sattler, 1720. Es ist ein einzigartiges Werk des österreichischen Barocks, freistehend vor dem Apsishintergrund, mit 35 Engeln.
Der Marienaltar zeigt "Die Geburt Christi mit der Anbetung der Hirten", geschaffen von Johann Carl von Reslfeld, 1711.
Der Kreuzaltar zeigt "die Kreuzigung" erschaffen von Karl Loth. Abt Anselm von Garsten erwarb das Bild 1710 vom Kloster Tegernsee. Begleitfiguren: Petrus und Veronika. Das schwere Akanthusgerank der Altarumrahmungen stammt aus der Werkstatt des Garstener Laienbruders Maria Rittinger.
Die Kanzel erschaffen 1751, zeigt eine wunderschöne Rokokoarbeit, an den Kanten Putti mit Symbolen der göttlichen Gesetzgebung, am Schalldeckel der Erzengel Michael.
Das Kuppelfresko stellt die "Aufnahme Mariens in den Himmel" dar. Erschaffen wurde es von Johann Carl von Reslfeld, 1710.
Die Orgel wurde von der Firma Eisenbarth,in Passau 1975 erbaut und 1985 auf zwei Manuale und 17 klingende Register erweitert. Das Gehäuse stammt von der früheren Orgel von 1908.
Das Weihnachtspostamt Christkindl
Ohne Kirche kein Postamt. Mit dieser kurzen Formel lässt sich auf einen Nenner bringen, was Christkindl so bedeutsam und mittlerweile weltberühmt macht: Die Kombination aus einer mehr als dreihundertjährigen Wallfahrts- und Kirchengeschichte mit einer grandiosen Idee eines US Besatzungssoldaten aus der unmittelbaren Nachkriegszeit. Damals, 1950, als die Menschen gerade begonnen haben, das Schreckliche und nicht Nachvollziehbare der Jahre 1939 – 1945 zu überwinden und von der traumatischen Vergangenheit wieder in die Gegenwart und Zukunft zu blicken, war die Sehnsucht nach Frieden, Wärme und Hoffnung so groß wie nie zuvor. Wo hätte sich dieses Ideal besser finden lassen als in jener Kirche, in der sich Jesus Christus als Kind in seiner menschlich verständlichsten Form manifestiert.
Zwei Wiener waren es schließlich, die dann 1947 das Projekt in Angriff nahmen, in der Ortschaft Christkindl, zur Weihnachtszeit, ein Sonderpostamt zu errichten. Nach mehrfachem Briefwechsel und nach Überwindung anfänglicher Schwierigkeiten, hat die General-postdirektion mit Dienstanweisung vom 27. Jänner 1950 die Errichtung eines Gelegenheitspostamtes angeordnet. Am 15. Dezember 1950 öffnete das Postamt Christkindl erstmals seine Pforten. Der improvisierte Postschalter befand sich damals in der Küche des Mesners der Kirche, wo die Postexpedientin Johanna Zeilinger 42.330 Postsendungen mit dem ersten Christkindl-Sonderstempel versah. Im zweiten Jahr übersiedelte das Postamt in das nebenan liegende Gasthaus „Zur schönen Aussicht“, das heute als Hotel und Restaurant „Christkindlwirt“ geführt wird. Seitdem ist dort in der Post Stube das Postamt Christkindl untergebracht, das während der Adventzeit bis 6. Jänner geöffnet ist. Seit 1951 werden neben inländischen Postsendungen auch solche aus dem Ausland abgestempelt.

The miraculous image
This Christ-Child, only 4 ins high, made of wax, holds the cross in his raised left hand and the crown of thorns in his half-lowered right hand.
The High Altar
Around 1720 the altar received a towering superstructure of carved and gilded wood, which can be attributed to Leonhard Sattler from St. Florian. A vast glory of angels (35 putti and cherubs' heads) inclines itself with billowing clouds in a lively spiral around the preserved trunk of the Christ-tree to which Sertl once committed his miraculous image.
The tabernacle
A gilded globe of beaten copper, a work of Josef Hieber, a coppersmith in Unterhimmel (about 1760). Above it the book with the seven seals serves as a throne for displaying the monstrance with the Host.
Altar of Mary
The altar picture "The Birth of Christ with the Adoration of the Shepards" by the Garsten abbey painter Johann Carl von Reslfeld (1711). A detail from this picture provides the motif for the Austrian Christmas stamp for 1989. Accompanying figures: Mary's father and Anna, her mother, with her.
Altar of the cross
The altar picture "The crucifixion" by Karl Loth. Abbot Anselm acquired this picture in 1710 from the monastery of Tegernsee in Bavaria. Accompanying figures Peter and Veronica. The heavy intertwined acanthus ornamentation of the altar frames is from the workshop of the Garsten lay brother, Marian Rittinger (+1712).
The pulpit
The pulpit of 1751 displays profuse Rococo carving, putti with symbols of the divine law and on the sound-board the archangel Michael.
The dome fresco

The organ
The organ was built in 1975 by the Eisenbarth Co. in Passau and extended at the restoration of the church in 1985 from 11 to 17 stops. The housing comes from the previous organ of 1908.
The Christmas-post-office Christkindl (Christ child)
Without church there wouldn‘t be a post-office. It is the combination of the more than three hundred years old church combined with its pilgrimage history and the idea of a soldier of the US-occupying forces after world-war II.
At that time people just started to leave the terrible time of the world war with all the attrocities, privations and personal losses behind them and began to think about a future. Their dreams were about peace, hope and warmth.
The old church of Christkindl with its manifestation of Jesus Christ as child was a perfect symbol of these hopes.
Finally two citizen of Vienna started the project of a special Christmas time post-office in Christkindl.
Families are visiting this special post-office to let their children send their wishes to Christkind! (In Austria Christ child is bringing the presents on Christmas-eve not Santa Claus!)
The official opening was on December 15, 1950. At that time the post-office-counter was in the kitchen of the sexton of the church. At the first season the total of mail with a special Christkindl-postmark was 42.330!!!
In 1951 the post-office moved to the adjoining restaurant „Zur schönen Aussicht“ where it is till today. The name of the restaurant has changed to „Christkindlwirt“.
When started in 1950 only Austrian mail was stamped. Since 1951 mail from everywhere in the world will receive the special postmark.
