Why socks and spuds?
Socks and spuds are the products that Crookwell is best known for. Not far from this Virtual cache is the Lindner Sock Factory. The Lindner family have been knitting socks for 4 generations over 90 years - in Australia since 1987 and in Crookwell since 1997.
Potatoes have been grown in Crookwell for over 150 years. The surrounding areas of Redground, Bannister, Cotta Walla, Gullen and Glenerin lead Australia in the production of potatoes. There are over 20 varieties of seed potato grown in this region and many of the farmers play an important role in the development of new varieties, farming practices and technologies.
(Crookwell is also famous for its incredible ability to produce world class sportsmen and sportswomen, but I'll save that for another cache.)
To log this cache:
The posted coordinates bring you to the Pat Cullen Reserve on Kiama Creek. You will see an animal mural. There are a couple of plaques on the mural. To be eligible to log this cache as found, you need to email me, or message me via the Geocaching app with the 2 words that are on the silver plaque (now painted yellow) in black letters. It would be lovely to see photos of you and or your gps near the mural, the creek or one of the many artworks or sculptures in the reserve in your logs.
