Perchtoldsdorf ist seit dem Biedermeier ein beliebtes Ziel von Sommergästen, Ausflüglern und Touristen. Bedingt durch seine Lage fernab der wichtigsten Verkehrsverbindungen verbrachte der Markt das 19. Jahrhundert im Abseits des Fortschritts. Es war gerade diese Verschlafenheit, die die ersten Gäste anzog. Der mittelalterliche Ortskern mit der zentralen Burg-Kirchenanlage und dem spätgotischen, freistehenden Turm hat die stürmische Entwicklung des vergangenen Jahrhunderts ebenso unbeschadet überstanden wie der historische Marktplatz mit barocker Pestsäule, Rathaus aus dem 15. Jahrhundert und schönen alten Bürgerhäusern aus Gotik und Renaissance.
Der 60 m hohe, freistehende Wehrturm, ein Meisterwerk spätmittelalterlicher Festungsbaukunst (1450-1521), ist seit rund einem halben Jahrtausend das Wahrzeichen des Marktes. Der untere Teil des mächtigen Quaderbaus bis zur Gewölbezone der Nikolauskapelle war bereits um 1460 fertiggestellt. Danach wurden die Zeiten zunehmend unruhig und bedingten eine jahrzehntelange Unterbrechung des Turmbaus. Die Bautätigkeit wurde erst 1518 wieder aufgenommen, dann aber zügig zum Abschluss gebracht. Als Vollendungsjahr gilt nach der oberhalb der Turmuhr eingemeißelten Jahreszahl 1521, der Wehrgang war nachweislich aber erst 1523 fertiggestellt.

1.) Begib dich zur Ostseite des Wehrturms. Im Boden findest du ein großes B. An der Wand des Wehrturmes ist eine Tafel mit Inschrift angebracht. Wie lautet das zweite Wort in der dritten Zeile?
2.) Begib dich zur Südostecke des Wehrturmes. In etwa 3 Meter Höhe findet sich eine runde Plakette. Wie lautet der Text darauf?
3.) Gehe die paar Schritte zur Pestsäule. Auf deren Südseite findest du ein Bild. Wie viele halbkreisförmige Fensteröffnungen findest du darauf?
4.) Mache ein Foto von dir und/oder deinem GPS Gerät, auf dem die Pestsäule und der Wehrturm zu sehen sind. Lade dieses Foto bitte mit deinem Log hoch. Fotos mit dem Wehrturm allein können leider nicht akzeptiert werden.
Since "Biedermeier"- Period (1814-1848), Perchtoldsdorf is a popular destination for excursionists and tourists. Due to it’s position far away from the most important traffic connections the village did not participate in the progress of the 19th century. In spite of the rapid development since the 20th century the medieval centre of the village has been preserved and the castle and church complex with freestanding Late-Gothic defence tower, from where you have a superb panoramic view, is a popular initial point for a walk over the Market Square with the Baroque Plague Column, the Town hall from the 15th century, beautiful old (citizen) houses from Gothic and Renaissance with many attractive patios.
The 60 meters high, free standing fortified tower, a masterpiece of late-medieval architecture (1450-1521, is the characteristic landmark of Perchtoldsdorf for approx a half millennium. You will find it in every picture of the village. Therefore it is also the dominating element in the coat of arms of Perchtoldsdorf. The lower part of the massive cuboid building to the vault-part of the chapel of Holy Nikolaus has been finished already around 1460. Then there were more and more troubled times, so the building of the tower has been interrupted for decades. The building activity started again in 1518, but could be finished quickly then. The finishing year has been set accordingly to the number that has been chiselled above the clock as 1521, the defense-corridor has been finished definitely in 1523. The late-Gothic building with its ornately decorated windows has got a steep hip-roof, which, together with the striking corner turrets and the little baroque onion-domed towers, gives the fortified tower its distinctive appearance.

4.) Take a photo of you and/or your GPS-device with the Plague Column and the fortified tower as a proof of evidence and upload it with your log. Photos only showing the fortified tower will not be accepted.
