Godalming's iconic Pepperpot has come to symbolise the town, its name coming from the shape of the cupola.

The building was erected as the town hall in 1814 replacing an earlier timber building. Inside you will see an octagonal tile on the floor reflecting the shape of the structure.
At one stage it was used as a public convenience ( the walls had been filled in then!)
The upper part of the building is now a function room and the lower open part is often used as a market area, the building having been restored prior to its bicentenary in 2014.
Godalming claims to have had the world's first electric street lamp in 1881 and this is commemorated on a brass plaque in the open downstairs area.
Godalming Museum is hidden away just opposite and is well worth a visit. It is open Tuesday - Saturday 1000 - 1700 in the summer and 1000- 1600 in the winter.
Near the museum a plaque commemorates General James Oglethorpe a local resident whose claim to fame is founding the colony of Georgia in America in 1733.
Godalming Town Walk is a self guided 90 minute tour of the town.
How to claim a find for this cache
1 Either post a photo of yourself with The Pepperpot in the background or, if you do not want to show your face, write your geocaching name on a bit of paper and photograph that instead.
AND
2 Message me the five digit number on the padlock on the black pump. ( It is possible that you can only read the last three digits now - that is fine)
For reasons that escape me, I understand that some cachers claim virtual finds without visiting GZ. Therefore logs without supporting photos and correct code messaged to me will be deleted without warning.
