Geocache Description:

Aysgarth Edwardian Rock Garden is privately owned, but open to the public during the day. The co ordinates will take you to the gate. No payment is necessary, although a donation goes towards the upkeep. This Rock Garden is Grade 2 listed and stands on a small walled site, it was constructed by the Backhouse firm of York and is a rare surviving example of their work. It was designed as a kind of 'walk through grotto', with huge limestone formations, narrow winding paths, a stream and cascade all add to the charm of this amazing garden. The rock garden has had several owners, and it was saved from developers in 1988 by being given Grade 2 listing status. It is well worth a visit, and certainly worthy of the recent gift I was given of a Virtual Cache. Why not also visit the nearby Aysgarth Falls, another beautiful example of limestone at its best within the Yorkshire Dales. This is not suitable for wheelchair or pushchair access due to the uneven paths. Parking, whilst limited, is available within the village, but please do not park in front of the gardens' gate. This cache is placed with kind permission from the owners. To log this cache please answer the following questions and send the answers by email. 1. There are many different alpines in the garden, name three. 2. Where is the sensor that sets off the water (nothing needs to be moved to find this. 3. Sit on the bench inside the garden what is directly above your head. Comical photos are accepted and can be posted on the log.
