Located just 17kms south of Owaka is the Purakaunui Falls Scenic Reserve. The Purakaunui Falls are a short walk (20mins return) from a car park area through impressive podocarp and beech forest.
The track is suitable for wheelchair access to the top viewing platform. It is then a fairly steep climb downwards to the lower platform which gives an amazing view of these picturesque falls. This makes for stunning photographic opportunities. You will find that not only are the Purakaunui Falls in most books about The Catlins, but they have also featured on a New Zealand postage stamp and on many calendars.
Note there is no phone cover in this area, so please ensure you have read/downloaded this offline.
To claim this virtual you MUST:
1) Take a photo of something with your username on it (paper, gps, tag name, tshirt or even your hand etc) in front of the falls. Must be able to read your name and identify this is at the falls. (All team member names must be listed if only one group photo is submitted). You do not have to feature in the photo.
2) Send in a message the elevation your photo is taken at. Please do not include this information in your log or photo.
You may log the cache immiediately, however photos must be uploaded and answers sent within 30 days. If no message is recieved or photos are not posted/able to read usernames you will be contacted and the log may be deleted.
