Geocache Description:

Admire the view and send me a message or email answering the following questions to log this cache: If you look from the eastern side of the bridge, you can see another bridge. What is this other bridge made from? Can you describe the pattern / shapes on its structure? To the west, you can see a weir which controls the flow rate of the river and has a fish ladder to allow migrating fish to move up and downstream. What shape is the weir? Optional extra: attach a photo of you / your GPS at GZ.

About the name: Canongate is now the main Alnwick - Wooler road, but formerly led from the town towards Alnwick Abbey and presumably Canongate refers to the monks who lived there. All that remains of the abbey is the gatehouse, situated in Hulne Park and visible over the park wall a short distance away from this cache. Please be aware that the only public access is on the bridge - the land either side is private and there is no need to attempt access to complete this cache!

This cache replaces my original Cannongate Cache, archived last year following repeated vandalism. I’m really pleased to have “won” the chance to set up this Virtual Cache so that other cachers can still visit and admire the view :)
