Geocache Description:

This virtual cache brings you to the oldest recreational park in Kuala Lumpur, the Perdana Botanical Garden.

The Perdana Botanical Garden (fondly known to locals as the Lake Gardens), situated within the Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park, was the first large-scale recreational park in Kuala Lumpur. I used to go there with my family a long time ago, before the time of the dinosaurs! (You’ll know what I mean when you get there.) The idea for a botanical garden was mooted by Alfred Venning, a 19th century British state treasurer to Malaya. When it was formally opened on 13 May 1889, the park was called Public Gardens but later renamed Lake Gardens. In 1975, it was renamed Taman Tasik Perdana, or the Perdana Lake Gardens. On 28 June 2011, the gardens were renamed again to Perdana Botanical Gardens.

This sprawling 227-acre park offers hours of fun activities and sightseeing opportunities for just about any visitor, from nature lovers to families with little ones. Lake Gardens is open every day from 7.00 am to 8.00 pm and admission is free. Over the last 20 years, the park’s spectacular landscaping and collection of trees and plants have become more impressive. Attractions within the park include a hibiscus garden, an orchid garden, various tree and plant collections, a sunken garden and a deer park. There are so many things to see and do! An hour will not be enough to see everything but don’t worry, you don’t have to cover the whole park to log this cache.

How to claim this Virtual Cache?

The aim of this virtual cache is to introduce you to Lake Gardens and encourage you to explore its many interesting nooks and corners. That might take at least one or two hours, depending on your walking speed and number of stops. If time is not on your side, head straight to the Herb & Spice Garden, Sunken Garden and Cycad Island/Bamboo Playhouse. All in, that's less than 900m from the given coordinates. Look at the park maps, signposts or Google map to help you find them.

Take a picture of yourself or any other proof that you were there, on all three locations, and post them together with your log.

Feel free to post pictures of other places you have visited as well - the more, the merrier!

I believe the logging requirement is not too cumbersome, hence your cooperation is much appreciated and logs which do not have the minimal 3 pictures will be deleted.

The posted coordinates bring you to the entrance gate which is only open during the designated hours. Limited roadside parking is available not far from the entrance. Unfortunately the main carpark further down the road is currently closed to the public until 1 March 2020 for construction work.

ENJOY! smiley
