One of my favorite places in Howth, if not all of Dublin, Muck Rock offers a wonderful panoramic view over Dublin. On a clear day you can see the Dublin Mountains to the South, The Bull Island to the West, with Ireland's Eye and Lambay Island to the North. Below you can see the isthmus at Sutton, Howth and Deer Park golf courses, Howth Castle and the harbour. The area is a little off the beaten track, the climb up is through a rhododendron hedge offering tantalising glimpses of the vista that awaits when you emerge from the canopy near the top.
Follow the waypoints to Muck Rock, which is an approx 10-15 mins walk from the car park. The initial climb is a little steep, but there are steps until it starts to level out. You will have to negotiate 2-3 areas of bedrock on the way, which can be slippy after rain, so please watch your step! It can also be a bit muddy on the initial part after prolonged heavy rain. Once clear of the hedge you will arrive at a rocky ledge, so again please use sense and don't go too close to the edge of the cliff!
TO LOG THE VIRTUAL CACHE:
1 - Using a camera or your phone, select the PANORAMA function and take a photo from South to North (left to right).
2 - Your photo must include Sheilmartin Hill, The Bull Island, and Ireland's Eye, as in the photo above. Do not worry if the view is obscured by cloud - I will still be able to identify the correct location.
3 - Post this photo with your log.
Note: If your device does not have the capability take a panoramic photo I will accept 2 or 3 regular photos as long as all three places mentioned are visible.
Optional..it would be nice to see you in the photo as well!
Enjoy the view!
