Les Torretes are two protected buildings as a cultural asset of local interest. They were part of the vast network of optical telegraphy communications, which, through signals, flags and lights, crossed the entire peninsula and reached France. In Calella, the civil telegraph and the military matrix coincided in the same location, very close to each other. The military tower (the smallest and closest to the sea) stood on the hill of La Patona in 1848. It had loopholes and a military personnel, and its nearest references were the towers of the castle of Sant Joan de Blanes, by the north, and from Caldetes, to the south. In 1857 a new optical telegraphy tower was erected, in this case of civil use, which was number 214 of the line that went from Montjuïc to La Jonquera. The history of these towers is short - they stopped operating in 1862 - because soon the railroad and the telegraph appeared, which made the communications faster and safer. Due to their precarious condition, some time ago they were restored and shored up to avoid further deterioration. For the Calella's people, it's a normal trip to get to where they are and enjoy the views that it offers us.
El Far de Calella (or Far del Capaspre) is a work included in the Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Catalunya opened on December 15, 1859 under the direction of engineer Marià Parellada,. Located at the top of a rocky 50 meters high, in the place where there is now the lighthouse, there was an old watchtower and defense, artillery, which watched and protected the coasts from the dangers of attacks by pirates Algerians. At the beginning of its creation, the lantern was fed with pressure oil and, later, the fuel was replaced by paraffin and petroleum. In 1927, it was electrified, the optical apparatus was improved and changed by another from the Medes Islands, nowadays still in service with small modifications. Today, the light of the lighthouse reaches a distance of about 35 miles and is known in the navigation charts due to its flashes, 3 and 2, every 30 seconds. From El Far, the views over the beach of Calella leave no indifference. The green and blue shades are combined perfectly to put the background in some photographs that will surely immortalize the best summer sunsets. And it is precisely at this moment when the activity intensifies. Undoubtedly, the Far has become the symbol of excellence of Calella.
Validation of this virtual cache: it is enough to take a photo in the initial coordinates of the cache (you can access from the path that is just to the left of the entrance of the lighthouse, you don't must enter at the lighthouse enclosure to make this Virtual) and another one at the WP point "Les Torretes" (N 41 ° 36.464 'E 002 ° 38.532'); therefore you have to do 2 pictures in total.. In each of them you must see the name and / or logo of your team. Optionally, you can also appear. We attach photos as an example:
OPTIONAL TASK OR BONUS! Close to the lighthouse and on the way to Les Torretes (approximate coordinates N 41° 36.480' E 002° 38.675'), there is a very lovely orange cat that we call it Berenguer. It is well cared for, and always round the street taking the fresh air. If you see it, we encourage you to take a picture!
