Geocache Description:

You’ve seen the sign, but have you visited the site? The Corridor of Oaks.

The Corridor of Oaks is significant as a unique memorial to Sir Henry Parkes and the prominent role he played in bringing about the federation of the Australian colonies. The Corridor is also significant as a unique commemoration of the successive Prime Ministers of Australia since Federation . The park is also significant for its cultural association with Joe Jackson, MLA, the park`s creator and instigator of the Prime Ministers` Corridor of Oak trees. He conceived of the idea of having each of the Prime Ministers of Australia, or their nearest surviving relative, plant an oak tree in an avenue near the former home of the man who played a major part in securing the federation of the Australian colonies. The Avenue would thus become a National memorial.

The area surrounding the park has quite a few geocaches. The entrance to the Victory Track is also very close by and offers a very enjoyable bushwalk of an hour or three…or six, depending upon how far you want to take it. The grave of Sir Henry Parkes, the Father of Federation, is also less than a kilometre away, just past Faulconbridge station on Sir Henry’s Parade.

To claim the cache, please take a photo of your foot with the plaque of your chosen prime minister. I chose this as I thought that no one would have a past photo including their foot with a plaque. Also, it’s quite easy to do. No need for political statements. No judgements will be made. You are, however, welcome to include any thoughts or memories of your chosen leader.
