Geocache Description:

Scouting is a grassroots level educational youth movement that is truly bottom-up in its structure and approach in engaging young people from all over the world. World Scouting today is a confederation of 200 countries and territories in a network of over 40 million members. Some 7 million are adult volunteers who support local activities, resulting in a huge multiplier effect. Through peer-to-peer leadership, supported by adults, each local Scout Group embraces the same set of values illustrated in the Scout Promise and Law. Eac of our 1 million local Scout Groups follows a similar system of non-formal education suited to the unique aspects of their local community

The World Scout Bureau (WSB) is a secretariat that carries out the instructions of the World Scout Conference and the World Scout Committee. The Secretary General of the World Scout Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) heads the World Scout Bureau and is supported by a number of staff members across its offices around the world. The Bureau maintains relationships with the National Scout Organisations (NSOs) supporting them in various areas, organises World Scout Events and develops relationships with other organisations at the global level.

The World Scout Bureau consists of eight offices - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Nairobi, Kenya; Cairo, Egypt; Manila, Philippines; Kiev, Ukraine; Geneva, Switzerland; Brussels, Belgium; and Panama City, Republic of Panama. The World Scout Bureau (previously known as Boy Scouts International Bureau) was founded in London, England in 1920. In the year of 1958, it moved to Ottawa, Canada. After about 10 years of operating in Ottawa, it was move to Geneva, Switzerland. The World Scout Bureau office was in operation for more than 45 years in Geneva, Switzerland, before transferring to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It serves as a shared service centre for the global operations of WOSM. The global operations comprise Scouting Development, Organizational Development, Communications & External Relations, and Finance & Administration. It also houses the Office of the Secretary General of WOSM. The fully-operational office hosts some 30 staff members from multiple nationalities, working closely with the World Scout Bureau Regional Offices to provide support to 169 National Scout Organizations which are members of WOSM.
