Marktplein
In opdracht van de gemeente Schoten werd in 1950 begonnen met de bouw van een multifunctioneel gebouwencomplex in regionalistische stijl, naar een ontwerp van architect Maurice de Vocht uit 1949. De bouwwerken werden in 1952 voltooid en kende nog een laatste uitbreiding aan de oostzijde omstreeks 1970.
De gebouwen met wandelarcade staan volgens een symmetrisch opzet in U-vorm rond een gekasseid marktplein opgesteld, met open doorgangen naar de achterliggende straten.
Beeldhouwer Herman Cornelis stond in voor de Uilenspiegelfontein die centraal op het marktplein is ingeplant, en de Breugeliaanse kapitelen van de marktarcade met als thema Vlaamse gezegden en spreekwoorden.
Uilenspiegelfontein
De Uilenspiegelfontein bestaat uit een cirkelvormig waterbekken in baksteenmetselwerk, waaruit in het centrum een rondzuil ontspringt, bekroond door een in hardsteen gebeeldhouwde, zittende Tijlfiguur van de hand van Herman Cornelis.
Wandelarcade
De zuilengalerij van de wandelarcade rondom het plein is versierd met 168 uitgebeelde Vlaamse spreuken en gezegden. Op elke zuil werd recent een sober plaatje aangebracht met daarop de tekst van de uitgebeelde spreuk of gezegde, want door de tand des tijds is het niet altijd meer even duidelijk wat Herman Cornelis destijds wilde uitbeelden.
Opdracht
[1] Neem een foto van jezelf, je GPS en/of iets persoonlijks bij de Uilenspiegelfontijn (Je hoeft hierbij niet herkenbaar te zijn) en voeg deze foto toe aan je log.
[2] Zoals uit onderstaand gedicht blijkt, verschuilt Tijl zich - zonder zijn Nele weliswaar - nog een tweede keer op het marktplein. Ga op zoek naar de zuil waarachter Tijl zich verschuilt (de naam Uilenspiegel staat letterlijk op het infobord) en stuur ons (via mail of via het berichtencentrum) de volledige tekst die op het bijhorende infobordje staat.

Market Square
Commissioned by the municipality of Schoten, the construction of a multifunctional building complex in regionalist style was started in 1950, after a design by architect Maurice de Vocht from 1949. The construction work was completed in 1952 and had a final expansion on the east side around 1970.
The buildings with a walking arcade are arranged according to a symmetrical U-shape around a cobblestone market square, with open passages to the streets behind.
Sculptor Herman Cornelis was responsible for the Uilenspiegel fountain that is implanted centrally on the market square and the Breugelian capitals of the market arcade with the Flemish sayings and proverbs.
Uilenspiegel Fountain
The Uilenspiegel fountain consists of a circular water basin in brick masonry, from which a pillar rises in the center, crowned by a sitting Tijl figure, sculpted in freestone, by Herman Cornelis.
Walking Arcade
The colonnade of the walking arcade around the square is decorated with 168 depicted Flemish spells and sayings. Recently a sign was placed on every pillar with the text of the spell or saying depicted, because through the test of time it is not always clear what Herman Cornelis wanted to portray at the time.
Assignment
[1] Take a photo of yourself, your GPS and / or something personal at the Uilenspiegel fountain (you don't need to be recognizable here) and add this photo to your log.
[2] As appears from the poem below, Tijl is hiding - BUT without his Nele - a second time in the market square. La Place
Commandée par la municipalité de Schoten, la construction d’un complexe multifonctionnel de style régionaliste a été lancée en 1950, sur un projet de l’architecte Maurice de Vocht datant de 1949. Les travaux de construction ont été achevés en 1952 et ont été finalement agrandis vers l’est.
Les bâtiments à arcade piétonne sont disposés en forme de U symétrique autour d’une place de marché pavée, avec des passages dégagés dans les rues en arrière.
Le sculpteur Herman Cornelis était responsable de la fontaine d'Uilenspiegel qui est implantée au centre de la place du marché, et des capitales breugéliennes de la galerie marchande sur le thème dictons et proverbes flamands
La Fontaine d'Uilenspiegel
La fontaine d'Uilenspiegel se compose d’un bassin circulaire en maçonnerie de briques, à partir duquel se dresse un pilier au centre, surmonté d’une figure de Tijl assis représentant Herman Cornelis, sculptée dans la pierre de taille.
Arcade de Marche
La colonnade de l’arcade de promenade autour de la place est décorée de 168 sorts et dictons flamands.Chaque colonne a été équipée récemment d’un panneau d’information avec le texte du sort ou de la phrase, car il n’est pas toujours clair ce que Herman Cornelis voulait décrire à l’époque.
La Mission
[1] Prenez une photo de vous-même, de votre GPS et / ou autre chose de personnelle à la fontaine d'Uilenspiegel (vous n'avez pas besoin d'être reconnaissable ici) et ajoutez cette photo à votre log.
[2] Comme indiqué dans le poème ci-dessous, Tijl se cache une seconde fois - MAIS sans sa Nele - sur la place du marché. Recherchez la colonne derrière laquelle Tijl se cache (le nom Uilenspiegel se trouve sur le panneau) et envoyez-nous (par courrier ou via le centre de messagerie) le texte intégral sur le panneau d'information qui l'accompagne.
