🏆Spirit at Alabama 🏈
Alabama sports teams have found great favor with their fans. This love has been enshrined on campus in a number of physical features such as Denny Chimes which was dedicated on May 27, 1929, to former University president George Denny. Then, there is the Walk of Fame, adjacent to Denny Chimes, where football team captains (including Joe Namath and Kenny Stabler) have placed their hand and footprints in cement slabs since 1948. Additionally, there is the Paul W. Bryant Museum which was opened in 1988 to focus on Alabama Football history with special emphasis on the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant (open daily 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. except major holidays.)
📣This Virtual cache focuses on one of the more recent additions: The Walk of Champions. It is located in The Plaza which is outside of the grand entrance to the north end of Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Plaza, a 34-foot wide, lighted walkway, includes plaques from championship years within the brick layout. Additionally, it includes an adjacent walkway which provides access to sculptures of coaches that have won national championships in football. The first four of these statues were added 2006. Coach Nick Saban was added later in 2010. These 2000 pound, nine foot statues are the target of this cache.
Your task is to visit this area, and after viewing the various statues, pick one of your liking. Hopefully, you will take the opportunity to express your SPIRIT by logging it with a very creative photo.
📒Log Requirement: You MUST take a photo in front of one of the Alabama coach sculptures (your choice, and you don't have to show your face). You must hold a sign that includes the following information: (1) your geocaching name and (2) the name of your favorite sports team (can be any sport). (3) In your log, post this photo and mention the name of your team. Failing to include this photo and information may disqualify your find and lead to log deletion.
📒Alternate Fun Competition (not required)- Show your spirit by wearing your favorite team gear (hats, shirts, etc). Include drawings, and rallying slogans of your team on your sign. 🚗Parking: You may park at the parking coordinates, as listed in Additional Waypoints below, 24/7 for an hour or less. Pull into the parking area on the western most entrance and exit out to the east. Remember, you may stay for an hour or less. This parking is not available on game day.
