La riserva naturale del Chiarone, situata a Massaciuccoli, sulla sponda orientale dell'omonimo lago, fu istituita nel 1979 all'interno del Parco Regionale di Migliarino, San Rossore e Massaciuccoli. Dal 1985, data la sua importanza come area umida interessata dalle migrazioni di molte specie di uccelli, è stata data in gestione alla LIPU - Lega Italiana Protezione Uccelli. Le principali specie migratorie che frequentano il lago sono: il falco pescatore (Pandion haliaetus), le marzaiole (Anas querquedula), i mignattini (Chlidonias niger), i gabbianelli (Larus minutus), il cavaliere d’Italia (Himantopus himantopus), il chiurlo (Numenius arquata) e i mignattai (Ibis falcinellus). Tra le specie stanziali si segnalano l'airone rosso (Ardea Purpurea), il tarabusino (Ixobrychus minutus), il falco di palude (Circus aeruginosus), il forapaglie castagnolo (Acrocephalus melanopogon), il basettino (Panurus biarmicus), il pendolino (Remiz pendulinus), la salciaiola (Locustella luscinioides), il cannareccione (Acrocephalus arundinaceus), la cannaiola (Acrocephalus scirpaceus), lo svasso maggiore (Podiceps cristatus), il tuffetto (Tachybaptus ruficollis), il tarabuso (Botaurus stellaris), il migliarino di palude (Emberiza schoeniclus), il cormorano (Phalacrocorax carbo), la garzetta (Egretta garzetta) e l'airone bianco maggiore (Egretta alba). La riserva può essere visitata da terra, a piedi, o dal lago, con barche a remi o canoe.
Le coordinate della cache portano a un piccolo chiaro tra i canali della riserva, dove spesso è possibile avvistare alcune specie di uccelli, raggiungibile sono in canoa attraverso uno stretto passaggio tra la vegetazione. Potete usare la vostra canoa o affittarla in loco; il punto più vicino dove noleggiare le canoe è l'oasi LIPU, ottima fonte di informazioni sulla riserva.
Requisiti per loggare la cache
Per poter loggare la cache è necessario allegare al log una vostra foto alle coordinate o presso una delle bilance nei canali vicini, l'importante è che sia evidente che siete arrivati con un'imbarcazione. The Chiarone nature reserve , located in Massaciuccoli, on the eastern shore of the lake of the same name, was established in 1979, within the Regional Park of Migliarino, San Rossore and Massaciuccoli. Since 1985, given its importance as a wetland affected by the migration of many bird species, it was given to LIPU - Italian Bird Protection League. The main migratory species that frequent the lake are: the osprey (Pandion haliaetus), the garganey (Anas querquedula), the black tern (Chlidonias niger), the little gull (Larus minutus), the black-winged stilt (Himantopus himantopus), the Eurasian curlew (Numenius arquata) and the glossy ibis (Ibis falcinellus). Among the resident species are the purple heron (Ardea Purpurea), the little bittern (Ixobrychus minutus), the Western marsh harrier (Circus aeruginosus), the moustached warbler (Acrocephalus melanopogon), the bearded reedling (Panurus biarmicus), the Eurasian penduline tit (Remiz pendulinus), the Savi's warbler (Locustella luscinioides), the great reed warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus), the Eurasian reed warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus), the great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus), the little grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis), the Eurasian bittern (Botaurus stellaris), the common reed bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus), the great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), the little egret (Egretta garzetta) and the great egret (Egretta alba). The reserve can be be visited from the ground, on foot, or from the lake, with rowing boats or canoes.
The coordinates of the cache lead to a small clearance between the channels of the reserve, where it is often possible to spot some species of birds. The clearance is only reachable by canoe through a narrow passage between the vegetation. You can use your own canoe or rent it on site; the closest point where you can rent canoes is the LIPU oasis, which is an excellent source of information on the reserve.
Requirements to log the cache
In order to log the cache, you need to attach to the log a photo of yourself at the coordinates or at one of the "bilance" in the nearby channels, the photo must show clearly that you have arrived with a boat.
