Your Rainbow Panorama
På taget af ARoS har publikum mulighed for at opleve den dansk/islandske kunstner Olafur Eliassons spektakulære kunstværk, Your rainbow panorama.
Værket åbnede for publikum 28. maj 2011.
Olafur Eliasson beskriver projektet med følgende ord: ”Your rainbow panorama" går i dialog med den eksisterende arkitektur og forstærker det, der i forvejen er givet, nemlig udsigten over byen. Jeg har skabt et rum, der nærmest udvisker grænserne mellem indenfor og udenfor – hvor man bliver lidt usikker på, om man er trådt ind i et værk eller ind i en del af museet. Denne usikkerhed er vigtig for mig, da den opfordrer folk til at tænke og sanse ud over de dimensioner, de er vant til at begå sig i”.
Olafur Eliasson har skabt det permanente kunstværk som en cirkelformet 150 meter lang og tre meter bred rundgang udført i glas i alle spektrets farver. Det farverige mesterværk har en diameter på 52 meter og er monteret på slanke søjler 3,5 meter over museets tagflade.
Museets gæster kommer via trapper eller elevator op til det store kunstværk. Den besøgende kan herfra begive sig på en sansevandring gennem det cirkulære panoramiske forløb med udsyn til den omkringliggende by og bugt.
Under det ’svævende’ kunstværk er selve tagterrassen. Den er beklædt med træ, så det er et enestående rekreativt område og en udsigtsplatform for museets gæster et halvt hundrede meter over gadeniveau.
På tagterrassens vestside er den 310 kvadratmeter store Tagpavillon placeret. Tagpavillonen indeholder et infocenter, SKY ROOM hvor museets gæster blandt andet kan få en introduktion til Olafur Eliassons kunstværk Your rainbow panorama. Pavillonen huser desuden SUNSET LOUNGE, et eksklusivt lokale med storslået udsigt mod vest og solnedgangen. Her er Olafur Eliassons kunstværk Your condensationinstalleret. Værket består af 321 glaskugler i forskellige størrelser, der på afstand ligner dugdråber, arrangeret i en stor, parabollignende form. Glaskuglernes bagsider er forsølvede og derefter malet sorte, hvilket bevirker at de genspejler beskueren, omgivelserne og sin egen konstruktion.
ARoS er med sine 20.700 kvadratmeter fordelt over 10 etager ét af Nordeuropas største kunstmuseer.
Hvert år modtager ARoS omkring én million besøgende, hvilket gør det til det mest besøgte kunstmuseum i Skandinavien.
ARoS’ ambition er at blive blandt de 10 væsentligste kunstmuseer i verden.

Your Rainbow Panorama
The world-famous Danish-Icelandic artist, Olafur Eliasson, has created Your rainbow panorama and it was official opened in May 2011 on top of ARoS.
Your rainbow panorama is a permanent work of art consisting of a circular, 150-metre-long and three metre-wide circular walkway in glass in all the colours of the spectrum. Mounted on slender columns 3.5 metres above the roof and with a diameter of 52 metres, this spectacular creation extends from one edge to the other of the facade of the cubic museum building.
There are both stairs and elevator to provide visitors to the museum with access to Your rainbow panorama. Then they can stroll through the circular, panoramic walkway providing a fantastic view of the city and the bay, a view in all the colours of the rainbow.
Beneath the ‘floating’ work of art, the actual roof surface of c. 1500 square metres is covered with sturdy timber making the surface into a unique recreational area and a viewing platform for visitors to the museum some fifty metres about street level.
There is full access to both the roof terrace and to Olafur Eliasson’s creation.
The following words are taken from the artist’s own description of his work: “Your rainbow panorama establishes a dialogue with the existing architecture and reinforces what was already there, that is to say the view across the city. I have created a space that can almost be said to erase the boundary between inside and outside – a place where you become a little uncertain as to whether you have stepped into a work of art or into part of the museum. This uncertainty is important to me, as it encourages people to think and sense beyond the limits within which they are accustomed to function.”
With a total of 20,700 square metres distributed on ten storeys, ARoS is one of the largest art museums in Northern Europe. Each year, ARoS has about one million visitors, making it the most frequented art museum in Scandinavia. ARoS has an ambition to be among the ten most eminent art museums in the world.
