Geocache Description:

In 1968 Mr N Hayman, a retired Waimate farmer, decided that it be worth commemorating the work of the many horses that worked the land in the Waimate district. Mr Hayman lived for a time in the 1920s at the farm owned by the CO's family. In the old sheds on the property were many bridles, reins and collars from the 8 draught horses that used to work the land up to the early 1950s.

It is a lovely hour or so walk (or mountainbike on the Big Easy track) through forest up to the site. The route starts at Te Kiteroa just up from a restaurant/brewery where you can get a locally made beer or a coffee at the weekends. Update: winery/restaurant is closed permanently.

Your tasks (revised Feb 2022 due to ongoing construction onsite):
1. From gz stand on the rocks there (not the horse) and take a photo of yourself with the head of the horse only and email this to the CO with the information requested below.
2. What colour is the eye of the horse? (NOTE: repairs currently underway so will accept current colour which is different to what it was when this cache was created and at this stage I have no idea what colour it will end up.)
3. OPTIONAL - on a clear day you can see the silos from gz quite well. Whose face is on your left hand side? He has something in common with the creator of the White Horse, his first name.  Who is he? He was well known because of his job.  Like the other people on the silos he is  buried in the Waimate Cemetery (You may require binoculars!)  And if you wish there is a multi there you can do that starts near his grave.
Please do NOT post your head photo or information online or it will be deleted. Other photos are fine! Please mention in your log whether you came to gz but foot, bike or vehicle. Full credit to you if you walked upQ! Or biked the Big Easy. You may log straight away but if the requirements have not been met the log will be deleted.

Congratulations to erninz on the FTF!
