Aletta Jacobs (1854-1929) is vooral bekend als de eerste Nederlandse vrouw die een universitaire studie afrondde (aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). Ze kreeg van minister Thorbecke op zijn sterfbed toestemming om examens te mogen afleggen, waarna zij de eerste Nederlandse vrouwelijke arts werd.
Daarnaast is zij ook bekend als feministe (ze was een groot voorvechtster van vrouwenkiesrecht en emancipatie) en pacifiste (in de Eerste Wereldoorlog ijverde ze in Nederland en daarbuiten voor vrede)

Aletta Jacobs (1854-1929) is mainly known for being the first Dutch woman to complete a university degree (University of Groningen). She got permission from liberal minister Thorbecke, on his deathbed, to take exams, after which she became the first Dutch female medical doctor.
Apart from the above she is also known for being a feminist (she was a leader in international women's movements - she fought for women's right to vote, founded the world's first birth control clinic and led campaigns aimed at improving women's working conditions to name a few) and pacifist (in World War I she strove for peace by organising meetings inside and outside of the Netherlands).
