Pasaulyje daug šunų turi jiems skirtas skulptūras, turi ir Kaune gyvenusi Bitė. Sembernarė Bitė (2004-05-31 - 2016-05-31) buvo gerai žinoma visame Kaune, tai bene žinomiausias šuo Kaune. Tad aplankykite ją, net gėlių galima nunešti, kartais pintinėje jų būna.
Bitė buvo gerai žinoma dėl savo proto, sugebėjo laisvai orentuotis miesto džiunglėse, mokėjo elgtis gatvėje, šalia mašinų. Esant poreikiui, ji galėjo pasinaudoti ir troleibusu. O poreikis iškildavo: šeimininkui į pirkinių krepšelį įdėjus pirkinių sąrašą su pinigais, ji viena keliaudavo iki parduotuvės. Bitę visi pažinojo ir keleiviai, ir vairuotojai ją draugiškai sutikdavo.
Kadangi kalytė buvo labai draugiška, jai niekada nereikėjo antsnukio ar pavadėlio. Nebijojo jos ir aplinkiniai, nes visi žinojo apie jos draugiškumą. Tačiau pasak jos šeimininko A. Bako, jei reikėdavo Bitė galėjo būti puiki gynėja, kartą vaiką gelbėjo nuo užpuoliko.
Ir nors dresūros Bitė nepripažino, su šeimininku ji komunikavo puikiai, buvo paklusni.
„Pažiūrėdavau į ją pikčiau ir iškart suprasdavo: per gatvę eiti negalima, ir ji neidavo“, – pasakojo kalytės šeimininkas. Ir priduria, kad šuo žingsniuodavo tik per perėjas, stropiai laikydavosi šviesoforo signalų – degant raudonam griežtai stovėdavo ant šaligatvio.

Many dogs around the world have sculptures dedicated to them and Bitė – that’s Bee in English – who lived in Kaunas, is one of them. The St. Bernard, who was born on May 31, 2004 and passed away on May 31, 2016, was well known in Kaunas. In fact, she might be the most famous dog in Kaunas. So do visit her, you can even bring her flowers and leave them in her basket.
Bitė was well known for her intelligence. She could easily navigate in the city, knew how to behave on the street and around cars. If she needed to, she could even use the trolleybus. And occasionally there used to a need for that – her owner would put a grocery list and some money in her basket, and she would go shopping alone. Both the passengers and the trolleybus drivers knew Bitė and used to enthusiastically greet her.
Since she was friendly, Bitė never needed a muzzle or a leash. The locals knew about her friendliness and were never afraid of her. Yet her owner A. Bakas claims that Bitė could be a real guard dog if there was a need. Once she even saved a child from an attacker.
Even though Bitė never gave into training, she communicated well with her owner and was obedient. “I would give her a stern look and she would understand that she couldn’t cross the street yet, so, she wouldn’t.” Bitė’s owner said. He adds that the dog would only cross the street at the crosswalk and would mind the traffic lights – she would stop and wait at the red signal.
