A little History
Two large stone lions guard the Council House Steps, and they have historically been a popular symbol of the City.

Joseph Else who was the Principal of the Nottingham School of Art between 1923 and 1939 sculpted the two lions, the 21 statues in the triangle above the entrance, and 1 of the 4 statues in the dome where Little John is housed.

The 2 Lions of Nottingham are originally named after 2 famous Greek brothers, although more recently they have been known as "Leo and Oscar" and sometimes "Lennie and Ronnie"

The Left-Lion has been adopted by locals as a popular meeting place in the centre of Nottingham.
