Hjörleifshöfði is a 220 meter high palagonite (tuff) cape that is found in the Mýrdalssandur (sands of Mýrdal) it is believed that Hjörleifur Hróðmarsson, blood brother of Ingólfur Arnarson, First settler of Iceland.
On this Island that rises tall out of the Black sands of Mýrdal, are some ruins to be found, from a farm that was deserted in 1936.
It is recommended that you do the hike clockwise, go the trail that leads to the left and up the hill from the parking lot and make your way to the highest part of the cape. From there desend to the west and pass the old farmsted on the way down and back to the parking.
