Live Green Lexington has hidden 12 geocaches around the city. Each cache represents a theme about water quality. You will have the chance to learn more about stormwater, pollinator gardens, Reforest the Bluegrass, and the Citizens’ Environmental Academy. Ready to learn more about the ways we keep our water clean and healthy?

Gainesway Park features a wetland, pond and stream-buffer in 3 of the parks' acres. The pond is a retention pond, which holds water all year long, providing water quality benefits such as cleaner water and a cleaner habitat for wildlife. Non-point source pollution and controlling storm water runoff is an important area of focus when restoring these types of areas. As water passes in between plants, it allows for cleaner water, known as bio-retention. Streambuffers are key to cleaning urban runoff as it enters the pond. The bubbles are also very important in keeping continual oxygen in the pond for the wildlife who live there. All of the water here will eventually flow to West Hickman Creek.
